Each year the ITE Iowa Section looks to recognize excellence in transportation by making awards to members whose contributions and achievements benefit our profession.
Jim Dickinson Distinguished Member Award – Nominations directly from the Awards Committee
The Distinguished Member Award is an honorary designation presented to members of the District who have provided outstanding and significant contributions to ISITE or ITE in general over a period of many years.
Doug Ripley Industry Member Award – Nominations directly from the Awards Committee
The Industry Member Award is an honorary designation presented to members of the District who have provided outstanding and significant contributions to ISITE or ITE in general over a period of many years. The intent is to award this to members serving or participating in ISITE or ITE in general through their employment as a vendor, supplier, or manufacturer of traffic control products.
Melvin B. Meyer Transportation Professional of the Year
This award may be presented to an individual member who has made outstanding contributions to the advancement of the transportation field through service to ISITE or ITE in general and achievements in the transportation field. This award is intended to recognize an individual for contributions over a period of years.
Tom Maze Education Professional of the Year
This award recognizes an educator who has made an outstanding contribution to transportation related professions by connecting academic studies to the actual practice of transportation. The award seeks to recognize transportation educators that help their students advance their professional development, enhance their opportunities to network with practicing transportation professionals, and become active participants in the profession.
Transportation Achievement Awards
These awards recognize excellence in the advancement of transportation to meet human needs, by entities concerned with transportation such as governmental agencies, legislative bodies, consulting firms, industry, and other organizations. Awards may be presented in the categories below, with a maximum of one winner per category each year (with the awards selection committee determining which projects fall under which categories):
- Complete Streets
- Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO)
- Safety
- Planning
- Traffic Engineering
Rising Star
This award recognizes a younger member who has already made an impact on the profession, has demonstrated the ability to lead the next generation, and have implemented innovative techniques to solve transportation problems.
Student Scholarship
Cash scholarships totaling up to $1,000 may be offered annually to one or more students in the ISITE area taking course work in transportation engineering or a transportation-related field. The scholarship is intended to encourage students to pursue a career in transportation related fields.
